Decking

Decking

Timber decking is our preferred choice for outdoor spaces such as entertainment areas and pool decks, as it can be exposed to all the South African elements.

There are other products, such as Composite decking, which could require less maintenance, but these stand a higher chance of shrinkage, warping, and fading.

Types of decking

There are various timbers which can be used for decking, but the most commonly used are:

Teak

A great timber to use for decking, especially in our climate.

Saligna

A good cost-effective alternative, however requires more maintenance.

Pine

If your deck will be exposed to full sunlight, Pine is not really recommended.

Balau

A very good choice for Coastal areas, but not for Gauteng or other dry climates.   Balau is naturally moist as it is not kiln dry.

Did you know?

There is NO grey wood. All timbers will grey if not treated, but NOT all timbers should be allowed to go untreated as they will crack and splinter.

Good timbers that can grey naturally would be Garapa and Masaranduba.

We mostly use a Silkwood Decking Product to seal all our decks and can install Pergolas and Balustrade if required. Screens and Wall cladding can also be done in decking.
